Haile Selassi Earthday 2014H.I.M. Haile Selassie 1 of Ehiopia as a child was named Tafari, meaning Creator.

He was given the baptismal name, Haile Selassie, meaning power of the Holy Trinity of the Universal Forces That Rule in Equality, (Revelation 5), Father, Spirit and Son in Unity, fulfilling ancient tradition.

Showing exceptional leadership ability, he was given the title and responsibility of Ras (administrator) of one of the provinces) while still a very young man. Ras means Head so Ras Tafari, meaning Head Creator of the House of Judah being two hundred and twenty fifth from the line of King Solomon of the Ancient House of Judah.

On the day of his crowning as Negusa Negast (King of Kings), November the 2nd, 1930, the Emperor used his baptismal name and was universally recognized as H.I.M. Haile Selassie I, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Elect of God.

The Lion of Judah, born on the 23rd of July 1892 over the zodiac sign of the lion, headed education and technical advancement in Ethiopia He is the first honorary president of The Organization of African Unity, so appointed on the 25th of May 1963 and gave the O.A.U its first and present head quarters in Addis Ababa. He advocates international Pan-African philosophy, brother hood of African people at home and abroad.

In 1955 he granted 500 acres of fertile land from his personal land in Southern Ethiopia at Malcoda, Shahshamane, so that the sons and daughters of Africa origin who were displaced by the slave trade and desired repatriation could be resettled through the land lordship of the
Ethiopian World Federation Inc.

He is worshiped all over Africa and the world because there is no better African champion that the sovereign of the only African country that delivered hard blows to colonialism. African leaders followed His successful peacemaking activities.

He is known and admired in the world because many times he imposed himself on world attention even when He was Regent. For example, in 1923 when He succeeded in having Ethiopia made a member of the league of Nations or when in 1924 he visited Rome, Paris and London as well as 1935 when he delivered a prophetic speech forecasting the disaster that Fascism
would bring about, namely World War II.

During his leadership he made sure he was personally involoved in the implementation of things that hanppened in Ethiopia.

Being the only head of state with a Universal and Christian-outlook for all humanity the world and more so Africa, admires Him, Haile Selassi.

Haile Selassie2The 122nd Inniversary of H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie I’s Earthday which will be held with a Nyahbinghi Churchical Gathering in Judah Square from Tuesday the 22nd of July (the Welcoming and Opening) at 5pm and will seal up on Wednesday morning the 30th of July.

The 23rd is the Earthday of Haile Selassie and the fire key will be lit first light (around 7am) that morning and will chant and give praises in the tabernacle until 3 when the feast will be served.

Visitors are welcome but there is a strict dress code where women need to be fully covered (skirts or dresses, no pants allowed) and a head covering. Men must also wear long sleeves and long pants and no head covering (caps etc.).

Sunday the 27th is set aside specifically for visitors as Observers Day from 10am.

There’ll be ceremonies and music in celebration of His Majesty Haile-I Selassie’ Earthday (Birthday) and Emancipation Day.

There are many events on the schedule in Knysna. In particular, the general public should join a walk on the Eco Trail on Thursday at 11am or view and experience the community on Open Day Sunday. There is no entrance fee.

  • Tuesday – Fire Key (6am), Sanctification and Play (11am), Lunch Feast, Drumming and chanting (from 7pm) and free soup at midnight.
  • Wednesday – Tribute to the Elders
  • Thursday 11am – Eco Trail open to public.
  • Friday & Saturday – NNC Conference
  • Sunday – open day to the public.
  • Monday – Zeal-Up.

Dress code: Men in long sleeves and women modestly covered (dresses not pants).
