14-year-old Tania Hendricks and a bunch of her friends were treated to a trip to Monkeyland by Love Knysna Projects, a collection of volunteers in Knysna. This is her story:

MonkeylandExciting Sunday it was! We don’t normally do stuff on Sundays which gives me an extra reason to to remember this one!

I totally overslept and was confused by the time we were suppose to be ready:) I got ready quickly but then realised that my friend Julie, and others, were not even there yet. As soon as everyone arrived, we set off on our journey to Monkeyland.

Before entering Monkeyland, we spotted two big horses grazing the grass of the parking lot. We met our guide, Thiem, who advised us to put our belongings away because curious monkeys love food and shiny things. Previously, a man had had his Blackberry hijacked by a monkey:)

Here’s some facts we learned about Monkeyland:

  • The tortoises that live here are called “monkey taxis”. The reason for this is that the monkeys like to travel on their backs from time to time.
  • The Capatchen monkey is the most intelligent in the world.
  • There are more or less 550 monkeys here.
  • The monkeys here eat 300kg of food per day, mostly fruit and vegetables. This costs over R20 000 per month.
  • A Scorra monkey got rejected by the mom and she bit off his tail. Why? Because tourists took pictures with him.
  • A baby monkey is carried by his mother everywhere.
  • The Gibbon monkey makes a loud, deep sound – “Whoohp, WHOOPH.”

I had a great time and an exciting Sunday to remember!

Pezula Spa - Julie and TaniaTania Hendricks and her friend Julie are teen residents of Judah Square. Love Knysna Projects organised for them to be pampered at Pezula Spa and Gym. Tania tells us what happened (this is her first blog):

The day at the spa went great. The trip there was cool because we had a pretty view on the way.

When we got there, everything was beautiful. The people that work there are really nice (and pretty as well). I got excited just by wondering what we were going to do first.

I got locker #14 for my clothes. On it, it said “Perfect”. Julie’s locker said “Love”. I bet that describes our personalities well:)

We got dressed in robes and big slippers. My foot must be half that size. I went walking around like a duck and enjoyed it:)

Julie and I were split up and taken into different rooms. Then came my favourite part – nails! It felt kinda weird letting someone else do my nails ’cause I’m used to doing it myself. But that lady made my nails so pretty I couldn’t stop looking at them!

We then went into a room that was silent. Me and Julie lay there on the waterbeds, talking about the place the whole time. After that, we got smoothies and went to take pictures. We waited for 45 minutes for our nails to dry.

Then Julie got in the pool and afterwards we went into the sauna (steam room). I didn’t wanna get out because it was so enjoyable and relaxing!

I enjoyed the day. every part of it. And I bet Julie did 2.

Thanks for giving us a day to remember.

Awesome day that was love.

From Tania.
